My Journey to Nutrition

Nutrition, health, nutritionist

Hey!

I’m Lily, and I’m a Sydney based Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP - trained by the Nutritional Therapy Association), currently specialising in pregnancy, postpartum, fertility and baby nutrition with Oh Baby School of Holistic Nutrition. In case you’re interested, below is a little about me and how I found my way into the fascinating field of nutrition…

Although like many women I have had a somewhat complicated relationship with food over the years, the one thing that has always remained at the forefront, even during the rockiest of times, is true love. I truly love food. I love eating it, I love talking about it, I even love looking at pictures of it. I always have, and I always will. So honestly, I’m not sure why it took me studying politics and working a boring finance job before I realised there was actually a career dedicated to my passion! It really was a light bulb moment that came just a week after I left my role in finance and headed to Thailand to take some time to decide what next. I came across a podcast with an FNTP discussing functional nutrition – and just like that, I had found my calling. Because not only do I love food and all things nutrition, I also feel passionate about the importance of viewing health from a functional, holistic perspective. This means addressing the underlying root cause of an issue, not simply taking steps to mask the symptoms.

Integral to my practice is the belief in the healing power of whole, nutrient dense foods. Not just to our bodies, but to our minds. As I alluded to previously, despite my love of food, I have not always had such a healthy relationship with it. This has come with time, and what is now a profound awareness that I really am what I eat, both mentally and physically. When I eat well, I feel energetic, happy, clear-headed. When I eat poorly, I feel the opposite of this. We are really just a collection of cells, and our cells are powered by nutrients. We must provide our bodies with the right raw material for it to function optimally.

Although I am so eager to help as many people as possible on their health and nutrition journey, I have chosen to further specialise in pregnancy, postpartum, fertility and baby nutrition because I feel that being a mother, and raising a child, is not only the most beautiful, special time, but also the most important job in the world, and should be treated as such. If there is a time when we should feel our most supported and well nourished, it is most certainly during pregnancy and post-partum. I am so excited to meet the expectant and new mumma’s who just need a helping hand navigating this incredible journey!
