As a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), I look at nutrition and health from a foundational, holistic perspective, taking into account a multitude of factors to understand how best to help you rebalance and reconnect with your body and its nutritional needs. I do not believe in quick fixes and simply masking the symptoms that you are experiencing, instead I want to uncover their root cause, and ultimately help your body harness its own ability to heal itself through the power of nourishing food.
95% of serotonin is produced in our gut (Nutritional Therapy Association [NTA], 2021) - this chemical stabilises our mood and provides us with our sense of happiness and wellbeing. Feeding our gut with the right nutrients is vitally important for us to be able to live our happiest, healthiest lives. The modern diet has unfortunately made this difficult to achieve, and is undoubtedly linked to a general decline in the health and vitality of the population. Current farming and agricultural practices have somewhat sapped foods of the abundant nutrients they once contained, whilst adding toxic chemicals and hormones in the process. Supermarket shelves are similarly stocked with heavily processed, nutrient poor foods that do not provide the nourishment your body deserves! In my role as an FNTP, I aim to help you discover all the ways you can decrease your exposure to the more troubling side of the modern food supply, and increase your intake of nutrient dense, whole foods. The appreciation of the power of whole foods is rooted in ancestral wisdom, and the belief that we can thrive off the foods we have naturally evolved to consume. Our ancestors had an incredible innate intelligence that allowed them to decipher what nutrients their bodies required – I will work to restore this in you.
Although I believe that all diets should be centred around whole foods, I also feel strongly that there is no one size fits all when it comes to nutrition. We are all unique, both biologically and in terms of our lifestyles. I will honour this individuality when undertaking your health journey alongside you, by helping you take personalised steps that fit in with your life and your body. Sourcing whole foods is not always easy, but I will work with your personal circumstances to make sure that it is possible in some form. I hope that you will begin to find enjoyment from sourcing and cooking good quality, nutrient rich food, and the relaxed, calming state that can accompany it, once it turns from a chore into a labour of love. In the words of Samin Nosrat (2017) “Don’t forget to enjoy the pleasures, both small and large, implicit to cooking and eating with people you love!” (p.13).
